What is your background & training?

I graduated from Laval university in Quebec City more than 25 years ago. I was young and initially not sure if physiotherapy was the best choice. But I loved the human body and loved learning so I realized quickly that this would be good for me. There has been tremendous leap over the last 15-20 years in our knowledge and understanding of the human body and of human beings.

More than ever we can acknowledge that we are a very complex entity with physical and emotional aspects that continue to be very interconnected. It is often referred to our biopsychosocial self…. When you think of “fixing” the body, it can be challenging. I have had the opportunity to learn so much from many inspirational colleagues from different realms of practice and backgrounds that I am very grateful for.

What inspired you to choose this career path?

I have always liked sports. I would have liked to reach higher levels in sports myself but was never good enough to be a career. Not long after I started in physiotherapy school, I saw the opportunity to fulfill my dream of participation in high level sport. It was by becoming someone who can help others achieve their athletic goals. I saw the opportunity to travel which was another thing I really liked.

My initial, ultimate goal was to make it on the Canadian team for the Sydney Olympics in 2000! I worked hard and did so many volunteer hours to improve and be better that once I did that, I had to think of another goal…. It was not hard to do as I realized that I get my drive, energy and desire to learn working with athletes and helping pushing their body to higher limits without the set back of an injury. It is about “finding the root of the problem” but also about “performing”.

What I learned in the process helps me take care of all my clients regardless of their age and goals. It is a win/win situation. Everyone wants to be active and healthy. If I can help them achieve that, it makes me very happy.

What drives your current work?

I would never had thought years ago that I would have been able to go to multiple Olympics and World Championships. But the pursuit of excellence can be difficult as it is an environment that has no forgiveness. There are moments of success but also moments where things don’t go the way you want. You have to reflect constantly on your role and your work. I have always tried to focus on doing my best. There is nothing more rewarding for me then helping someone return to what they love to do being a sport, an activity or job they had been unable to do.

What are you personally passionate about?

I love being active, running, hiking or just walking outside on a sunny day. I like crafts and get easily carried away with various projects with my kids from creating a fairy garden to painting or building a hockey puck rebounder! I like listening to podcasts or audiobooks most of the time involving some sort of learning about something or books about self-reflection.
